FPRD-RS-C01

Uniqueness of relative degree

Exact statement

Whenever a relative degree exists, it is unique.

StatusProved directly from the support and witness conditions
External reviewNo documented external or specialist review of this FPRD result is recorded.

Context

Uniqueness ensures that the algorithm returns a mathematical invariant rather than an arbitrary admissible prefix length.

Proof or evidence

If r<s both satisfied the definition, the support condition for s would force f(a^r b)=0 while the witness condition for r requires it to be nonzero.

Verification notes

The contradiction is direct and includes the r=0 case.

Limitations

  • This does not assert that a relative degree exists for every series.
